QEST, is the charitable arm of the Royal Warrant Holders Association, and was established in 1990 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Association and the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.

Bendicks is proud to be working with QEST by establishing the Bendicks scholarship to support excellence in British craftsmanship.

This year’s scholarship has been awarded to Sophie Burrows who is looking to further develop her skills in Illustration and continue to develop unique ways of storytelling.

Sophie is a freelance illustrator based in Sussex. She holds a BA in Illustration from the University of West England, and has already illustrated a number of children’s books and book covers. The Scholarship will allow Sophie to complete her Master's degree in Children's Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art. The final year of the course offers the opportunity to create a series of projects to be exhibited in London and Cambridge in a final show, with a private view offering the chance to meet industry professionals. It also allows the opportunity to take part in an exhibition at Bologna Book Fair, which will allow Sophie to meet a wide range of industry professionals from all over the world.

After graduating, Sophie would like to focus on her own work, and especially comics, besides continuing to illustrate and write picture books.
